Liquidware Labs Launches ProfileUnity 5.6 To Support Fast, Precise Migrations to Windows 7 and VDI

New Configuration Templates and other key features support “point-and-click” Desktop Transformation for customers.

ALPHARETTA, GA & CHICAGO, IL, Aug. 21, 2013 - Liquidware Labs, the leader in desktop transformation solutions, today announced the availability of ProfileUnity 5.6, a significant update to the company’s leading User Management software for Windows desktops. Key among numerous updates are Guided Configuration templates that support a variety of enterprise desktop transformation scenarios, import/export of individual custom configurations and context-aware filters, and auto-discovery of enterprise printers.

“We responded directly to customer feedback to provide the features they needed in real-world environments to solve key user management issues in both physical and virtual environments in this release,” said Jason Mattox, CTO of Liquidware Labs.  “We have taken the most common requirements and established templates to speed Windows XP to Windows 7 migrations, and to move from basic profile management solutions to ProfileUnity when an organization needs a more robust and full-featured solution.”

Guided Configuration Templates

The new Guided Configuration templates allow administrators, consultants, and integrators to point-and-click on an ideal configuration for their environment. Once a chosen configuration is live, it automatically sets in motion a move of hundreds to thousands of users from Windows XP to Windows 7, regardless of desktop platform. Once users are moved to the new platform automatically at login, ProfileUnity’s full capabilities kick-in, and users are instantly configured for ongoing User Management on the new desktop, whether it is a physical Windows device or VMware Horizon View or Citrix XenDesktop.

“Many of our enterprise customers’ demand full-featured User Management beyond basic profile management solutions, and lately we have standardized on ProfileUnity for these use cases.  Configuring and setting up ProfileUnity for full User Management just got even easier with this release,” said Vince Catanzaro, Senior Systems Architect at Alternative Information Systems. “We often run into physical and virtual environments that have a mix of Windows XP, 7, Terminal Services, and virtual desktops from VMware and Citrix. Differences in profile format and platforms used to take more time to setup but with ProfileUnity’s new Guided Configuration Templates, we’re able to start by choosing a configuration that most closely matches the customer’s environment.”

Point and Click Configuration Templates include the following scenarios and more:

  • Windows XP Migration to Windows 7, Persistent VDI, Non-Persistent VDI, or Physical
  • Windows XP & Windows 7 co-existence among same users
  • Windows 7, New Non-Persistent VDI Deployment
  • Windows 7, Migration from VMware View Personal Manager to ProfileUnity
  • Windows 7, Migration from Citrix UPM to ProfileUnity
  • Windows 7, Migration from a competing  persona management tool to ProfileUnity

Import/Export of Custom Configurations and Context-Aware Filters

In addition to preconfigured templates, pre-built into the solutions, custom templates and context-aware filters can now be imported/exported easily into ProfileUnity to replicate the preferred best practice profile and configuration management for organizations.

Printer Management Enhancements

ProfileUnity’s Printer Management feature-set has also been enhanced to perform automatic auto-discovery of enterprise network printers. Administrators can now point to an existing printer and apply a context-aware, rule-set based on Active Directly Group, OU, username, location, or other data.  The printer will then be dynamically assigned to the targeted users when the context-aware filter is fulfilled.

ProfileUnity’s FlexApp follow-me user and department installed application technology has also been streamlined. Login times to apply FlexApp applications are now up to three times faster!
